There’s No Use In Crying Over Spilled Vitamins

How To Use Mindfulness to Avoid Daily Mishaps

Did you know that the Universe is always working on our behalf? This is true even on days when it seems that everything is going wrong. You know what I mean, the morning that you spill your coffee, can’t find your car keys, and forget your wallet.

See Exhibit A [below]

Broken Vitamin Bottle - Landscape

My latest moment of “mindlessness”…   Exhibit A: This vitamin supplement bottle that came crashing to the floor just as I was reaching for it on a top shelf, while juggling a host of other things in my opposite arm – including my non-negotiable laptop. I know, bad move, but I’m being honest here.

We’ve all had these days. But now I look at these situations just a little differently…

Disorganized moments are a clear sign for me that I’m ungrounded, and the longer I stay swirling in my head or thinking about the next thing I have to do, the longer I will be running into trouble. So what can you do instead?

Put a Halt to the Spiral of Mishaps

Instead, I stop myself in that moment and slow down. Even if I’m late for something, history tells me that rushing will only continue the spiral of mishaps, ultimately making things worse. When these mishaps occur, they are actually signs from our spirit letting us know that we’ve lost our connection. We need to stop, take a breath, ground ourselves and reconnect. It doesn’t take long to do, but can literally redirect your energy for the remainder of your day. Putting you into a helpful positive flow.

Your Quick Solution for a Mindfulness Turnaround

So, if you want to avoid the broken bottle (and all the negative consequences that come with it), here’s the breakdown again.

Step 1:  You catch yourself in a negative pattern – i.e. the spiral of mishaps.

Step 2:  Immediately stop what you are doing – it doesn’t matter whether you are sitting, standing or moving, just stop.

Step 3:  Take a deep breath and if possible shut your eyes for that inhale and exhale. Focus on the action of breathing.

Step 4:  Repeat this 2 more times.

Step 5:  Now make a conscious choice as to what your next action will be moving forward.

Step 6:  Nice work. This quick exercise should have helped you feel more grounded and centered in your body. Enjoy the refreshed sense of  focus and clarity.
