Is life passing you by because of your daily routine of rushing? Instead…be in the moment and experience your life. Train your brain to be mindful with simple everyday occurrences. It doesn’t take long. And the more you do it, the easier it will become.
Eating Mindfully
Next time you sit down to eat be present with the activity.
- Notice the color and shape of the food.
- Try chewing each bite at least 15 times before swallowing.
- Explore the texture and taste of the food as you chew.
- Savor the flavors.
- Have gratitude for all those who participated in getting this food from it’s point of origination to you.
The Mindful View
Step outside to a view that you’ve seen many times before (like out your front door). If you can’t go outside a window will do.
- Take in a deep breath.
- Slowly scan over the view.
- Identify something new in this view that you’ve never noticed before.
- Acknowledge this detail individually. Appreciate it.
- Take another deep breath and return to your daily activities.
Sitting In Your Chair With Mindfulness
When you are sitting at your desk, couch or at the kitchen table today, be in the experience in a new way by staying in your body.
- Feel your bottom on the chair itself.
- Note how that feels – hard or soft.
- Is your back supported? Do your feet touch the floor?
- Are there any adjustments you could make to feel more comfortable?
- Notice the relief and comfort that your body feels while sitting.
- Relax.
- Once settled, close your eyes and take in a deep breath. Exhale and repeat the breath 3 times.
