“How can this be true?” you ask.

Well let me do some explaining…

Switching It Up

Sometimes I get into this steady groove with my workout routine. And I’m talking for months. When I commit, I commit – which is positive overall. But the negative creeps in when my commitment blinders keep me from seeing the the value in other types of exercise. Of course I know that mixing a little cardio in with my yoga would be good for my heart and cholesterol. Which means that stepping out of that good habit routine really could be of benefit. Definitely something to consider. So not that I’m ready to leave my yoga mat altogether – just switching it up a bit. Where do you need to switch it up a bit?

Good habits can be like old friends – they comfort us, support us, provide a place to go without having to dress up or feel the need to impress. The bummer is…they keep us from experiencing adventure.

Check In With Your Why

The good habits that you’ve instituted already must serve you in some way. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have them in the first place. But over time, you might lose sight of the benefits. Stopping the behavior gives you a refreshed perspective on what was helpful to begin with – why you were doing it. And the why…well there’s your motivation. And honestly, who keeps up with a good habit without motivation?

Find Your Sense Of Adventure

Good habits can be like old friends – they comfort us, support us, provide a place to go without having to dress up or feel the need to impress. The bummer is…they keep us from experiencing adventure. The adventure that gets your blood pumping just a little faster and gives you a juicy story to tell. No one wants to be boring. So consider leaving a good friend at least for a few days. After all, you don’t want miss a good thrill…at least every once in a while.

Dump It

Dumping your good habit might be exactly what the doctor ordered. So don’t be afraid to lose those good habits and try something new. Stepping out of the good habit just might lead to one that you like even more. And even if you don’t…it will bring you to a more mindful, clear and appreciative place with the old habit. Sounds like a win, win to me!
